Plantain chips are a tasty snack made with various ingredients. They come in different flavours, such as sweet, salty, chilli, or spicy. This recipe is a salt version, which works very well with green plantains.

Flavour. However plantain chips can also be achieved using an Air Fryer to make them, you get all of the crunch of a deep fried plantain chips without all of the fat.
If you haven’t peeled a plantain before, don’t be fooled by the soft banana-like appearance. Grab a knife, chop off both ends and score it along the side before you remove the peel. Because this recipe uses green plantains rather than ripe ones, the resulting flavor is like eating a slightly sweeter version of potato chips.
How To Make Plantain Chips In an Air Fryer
For this recipe, you’ll only need a few ingredients–green plantains, salt, and a small amount of sunflower oil. Beyond the crunch, plantains also bring fibre, potassium, and vitamin C for an antioxidant boost. With nutritional benefits like these, feel great about munching on them.
Green plantains are best used in an air fryer because of the starchy side. If you prefer a sweeter chip, choose a riper plantain. The riper the plantain, the sweeter the chip! But, if you like salty snacks go for the green ones.

Slice Those Plantains
First, we start by peeling our plantains. Then, using we thinly slice our plantain to 1/8” thickness. We highly recommend using a mandoliner food slicer for this task because we’re aiming for thin, even slices. Whether you choose strips or coins depends on how you plan to use them. Strips work best for air fryer and also dipping.
That said, if you do not have a mandoliner food slicer which will make your plantain slices thin, using a kitchen knife will also do the trick but just realize that your plantain slices may not achieve the proper thinness. The thinner the slice, the less time it will take to become dry which is what we want to achieve when Air frying plantain chips.

Prepare Your Air Fryer
After slicing the plantains, coat the fryer basket with a little sunflower oil and lay the plantain slices in the air fryer pan. If you are using an Air fryer with an aluminium rack; you can lay them on the rack with a flat pan at the bottom for any oil dripping. Finish off and season with a bit of Fine sea salt cooking.
Air fry plantain chips at 180 degrees Celsius 20 to 25 minutes.
Ready to serve!
Air fry plantain chips are ready to serve and eat. Serve them warm or let them cool at room temperature for extra crunch. Enjoy them plain or serve with your favourite condiment such as guacamole or just add some chill if you like them spicy!

4 Medium Green plantains
1tsp Sunflower oil
1/2tspFine sea salt
Instructions
Peel the plantains, cut them in half and slice into very thin strips. NOTE: Use a mandoliner slicer if you want consistent, ultra-thin slices. This is best for crispy results.
Coat the fryer basket with 1 tsp of sunflower oil and lay the plantain slices along the bottom. Brush the remaining sunflower oil on top of the slices. Season with sea salt to taste.
Air fry your plantain chips at 180° for 20-25 minutes depending on the thickness of your slices. Be sure to shake your basket once or twice during the air frying process to be sure they are evenly cooked. Watch them closely after about 10 minutes to prevent burning. If you've sliced them unevenly, you may need to pick a few out each time you check in. NOTE: If your plantains start to stick to the bottom, just lift them off with a pair of tongs and rub some oil at the bottom of the basket
Serve warm or allow to cool down for extra Crispiness
Notes
Serve with a side such as Guacamole which work great with salt chips or add some chilli powder if you like them hot and spicy!
