GOAT MEAT SUYA RECIPE

natrecipes284

Guys, If you know; you know 😋. This tasty grilled skewered meat called Suya also known as kebab is very well known as the ultimate African street food, popularly known in countries like Cameroon, Nigeria and Ghana. The taste is epic and this version is made with my tasty homemade suya spice. Suya can be made with any meat of your choice such as beef, mutton also known as lamb, goat meat etc. I  personally prefer to use goat meat or lamb when making suya  just because its my favourite when making suya and very tasty too when combined with spices.

Eating tons of suya is on my to-do list once I hit home. But for now, i’ll continue making this  delicious popular street food  for my family on weekends and on special occasions too !

Suya is very easy to make ; with few simple  ingredients from your kitchen cupboard, this recipe can easily be achieved .

I have been making suya these days that hubby and I get upset when  only one stick is left . That is how much we  love eating Suya. When the weekend comes , all i hear is suya ! suya !

What can I say? It is insanely delicious and slightly addictive. Plus this is a regualr favourite in the summer so when I see my neighbours grilling, all I want is to grill too. So I rush home and whip up some lamb  suya! Oh man, I love food!

INGREDIENTS

1 pound mutton or goat meat. As an alternative, you can also use  sirlion steak 1/2 kg for this recipe if you prefer beef.

4 tablespoons homemade suya spice

2 tablespoons oil of choice – I used vegetable oil. You can also use canola oil

1 large onion cut into big slices. This is optional if you prefer to use as a garnish.

Salt. You can also use 1 maggi depending on your taste buds. I find salt to be enough for this recipe . Thats my preference

Tools needed

Bamboo skewers

onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, 2 maggi cubes, ground ginger, garlic powder

This is basically the easiest recipe ever. Cut some meat, rub some seasoning then grill the meat and enjoy! I love chilling on my weekend evenings with suya, “Bobolo” a cameroonian side dish mad eout of cassave and tied in banana leaves which i then boiled for a couple of minutes;  fried plantains (recipe available ) and a glass of something something.

Hmm; Suya will always be one of my top three favourite foods to eat at all times.  Good food makes me happy ❤

METHOD OF PREPARATION

Soak bamboo skewers in water at least 20 minutes before preparation.

2. Wash and Cut meat into very thin and flat slices

3. Place meat in a bowl and add in suya spice and salt. Note that you may or may not need to add salt depending on how salty your suya spice is so be sure to taste the spice before deciding whether extra salt is needed. At this stage, Maggi cubes can be used if you do not have salt. Like i said in previous post, i prefer using salt when making suya as using maggi cubes can be overpowering to the suya spice mix.

4. Mix thoroughly to ensure that the spice coats all over the meat .

5. Place 3-5 slices of meat on each bamboo skewer.

6. Brush the skewered meat generously with oil.

7. Place them on the grill ; 10 minutes on each side.

8. If using an oven, place a tray lined with aluminium foil and generously grease with oil.  Grill in a 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) oven for 20 minutes – 10 minutes on each side. Half way through the cooking, flip skewers to the other side.

Recipe Notes

1. You could omit adding the onions to the beef if you prefer.

2. If you like, you could add chunks of bell pepper to the skewers.

3. If you are using goat, please take note it will take longer to cook as goat meat is tougher

Get grilling and enjoy !
